Steel orders arrive at B&B Welding in
one of two ways: by rail or by tractor-trailer. Most orders, however,
arrive and ship out via tractor-trailer. We have designed the 35,000
square foot shop to quickly on and off-load steel orders, and we
have arranged the machinery to create the fastest shop flow.
At the front of the shop, steel plate enters the front doors and
is easily moved by our newly purchased Permadur 6,000 lb capacity
magnet onto the conveyors of the Peddinghaus FPB 1800. Steel members
to be run through our Anglemaster also arrive in the front of the
building. There, they are quickly moved by a crane onto the Anglemaster's
conveyors to be punched, cut to length and stamped.
To the rear of the shop, the rail tracks enter through B&B's
back doors. We unload our steel (purchased direct from the mill
or from suppliers) with a massive Michigan 10-ton crane that lets
us quickly unload some big time steel tonnage. The crane itself
is part of a 200-foot crane bay over the rail siding. The offloaded
steel is put on our Peddinghaus conveyor and lift-and-carry transfer
system and moved to the various CNC machines for fabrication. Beams
load directly onto our beam line where they first run through our
40'' band saw and then exit through the Peddinghaus ABC 1000-4 Coping
Machine. From the beam line, fabricated parts can be moved quickly
using overhead cranes to other machines such as the camber machine
or to any part of the shop for assembly. |
