Lucas has been welding since 1972. Back then, Vince
walked into the Bethlehem Steel shipyard and filled
out an application. They taught him how to weld and
he's been doing it ever since. One of B&B's crack
welders, Vince also does some fitting work and, in his
words, "basically whatever they tell me."
Some guys like to fool with the computers, but not Vince.
"I'm too old to do that stuff," he says. Vince
spent countless hours with the submerged arc welder
working on the Norfolk Naval Pier job. It was work that
required extreme precision. " Here quality control
is 100 per cent," Vince says. "The stuff has
got to be right." Laid back, friendly, and funny,
Vince works hard during the week and goes fishing come
the weekend. He fishes for "anything and everything."
He takes his sixteen-foot boat out whenever he has the
chance. "I go out there more to relax," he
says. "Matter of fact, I could throw a line out
in the water and go to sleep." |
